What are the benefits of using renewable raw materials for our company?

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

Renewable raw materials are derived from natural resources that can be replenished or replaced within a relatively short period. Using these resources reduces reliance on finite, non-renewable resources, minimizing environmental impact and supporting sustainability efforts.

REDUCE CARBON FOOTPRINT

Renewable raw materials often have a lower carbon footprint compared to non-renewable alternatives. They can help mitigate greenhouse gas emissions throughout their life cycle, contributing to climate change mitigation efforts.

COST EFFICIENCY AND STABILITY

While initial investment or sourcing might require some adjustments, renewable materials can offer long-term cost efficiency. Price stability and reduced exposure to fluctuating prices of non-renewable resources are potential benefits, enhancing economic sustainability.

MARKET COMPETITVNESS AND CONSUMER APPEAL

Embracing sustainable practices by using renewable materials can boost a company’s reputation and attractiveness to environmentally conscious consumers. It can differentiate products in the market and attract a growing segment of environmentally aware customers.

REGULATORY COMPLIANCE AND RISK MITIGATION

As environmentally regulations evolve, companies that proactively adopt renewable raw materials may find themselves better positioned to comply with changing laws. Additionally, they can mitigate risks associated with potential future restrictions on non-renewable resources.

INNOVATION AND PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

Using renewable raw materials often drives innovation in product development and manufacturing processes. It can inspire creative solutions and encourage the adoption of new technologies, fostering a culture of innovation within the company.

Challenges of using renewable raw materials

HIGHER COST

Renewable raw materials may be more expensive than traditional materials, which can increase the overall cost of the shopfitting project.

LIMITED AVAILABILITY

Some renewable raw materials may have limited availability, which can make it difficult to source the necessary materials for a shopfitting project.

DESIGN LIMITATIONS

Renewable raw materials may have design limitations that can make it difficult to achieve certain aesthetic functional goals.

MAINTENANCE

Renewable raw materials may require more maintenance and upkeep than traditional materials, which can increase the overall cost of the project over time.

Sustain® Global Eco-Design Indicator Tool

POPAI UK & Ireland is dedicated to reducing the display industry’s environmental impact by fostering collaboration throughout the value chain. As a not-for-profit organization, they prioritize sustainability. CGL Retail Solutions ltd. has been a member of the Sustain Global Eco-Design Indicator Tool since October 2023.

The Sustain® tool is an indicator tool that operates on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) principles. Powered by POPAI, Sustain® provides an independent analysis of the environmental performance of displays and point of sale. It calculates CO2e, water usage, recycled content, renewability, and recyclability, yielding a Sustain® score that serves as a crucial framework for reporting.

Endorsed and recommended by industry-leading brands and retailers, the Sustain® tool is purpose-built for the Point-of-Purchase (P-O-P) sector. It facilitates the comprehensive measurement of the environmental impact of P-O-P, spanning from initial design to end-of-life considerations.

Here’s why it stands out:

-Tailored Benchmarking: Enables benchmarking across different iterations of the same unit or comparisons between past and present displays.

-Robust Reporting Framework: Equips clients with a structured reporting framework to support their environmental targets.

-Actionable Recommendations: Provide practical suggestions for improvement, guiding efforts to reduce the carbon footprint and enhance the recycled content and recyclability of displays.

-Compliance Assurance: Conforms to the key requirements of 14067-1 and the GHG Protocol Product Life Cycle Accounting and Reporting Standard.

CGL Retail Solutions Ltd Recycling Timber

At CGL Retail Solutions ltd. we like to complete the cycle of life for our timber displays. Any timber displays that we remove from our clients premises will be brought back to our premises to be recycled. We will remove any metal or plastic components which are also recycled.

The timber is then collected by Ray Whelan waste management and in turn that is pre-shred into a4 size pieces, checked again for any metal or plastic components. It is then shredded down to 25mm chips. The wood chip is then manufactured into corner pieces of pallets by Eirebloc in West Cork.

Vision Green

VisionGreen simplifies sustainability for clients, enabling lasting positive impact on the environment, communities, and profitability. They gauge environmental efficiency through carbon footprint, a measure of total Greenhouse Gas emissions from energy usage in owned or managed operations.

CGL Retail Solutions ltd. completed the VisionGreen Carbon Accounting Assessment on the 3rd Of March 2023. The information in the report helped us to understand the carbon footprint of our business and has provided us with information to improve efficiency and profitability in more sustainable way in the future.

We will complete another VisionGreen Carbon Accounting Assessment in March 2024 to see how much we have improved on our carbon footprint throughout 2023.
